The Central America and Caribbean region includes several of the most megadiverse and climate change vulnerable countries in the world. The German government, through the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the Federal Ministry for the Economy and Climate Protection (BMWK), the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (AA), has recognized the importance of supporting this region and, as a result, since 2008 has financed cooperation projects in the region.
