Transforming Agricultural Supply Chains to Deforestation and Conversion-free in Latin America

More than 40% of deforestation occurs in Latin America, leading to significant GHG emissions and biodiversity loss. Forest-to-agricultural land conversion is a major issue, with about 25% of land-use changes tied to agricultural exports. The EU, via international trade, contributes to 16% of global deforestation. Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities are affected through land conflicts and climate change impacts but also by facing labor exploitation and limited alternative income opportunities. The project scales up successful concepts and instruments, such as sector-specific guidelines, monitoring systems and financial mechanisms. Digital solutions, such the use of geo-spatial data will be explored. Strategic alliances, stakeholder dialogues, and partnerships will be also built or strengthened.
